going on vacation next week to oahu. renting a car and want to know which beaches to go to.?
I dont know how to swim, float, hold my breath under water so I am not waves at a beach- friendly
Most of the surfing action is on the North shore i.e. past Haleiwa town.
there is some nice beach area by bellows, and right in Waikiki in back of the Hale Koa hotel is a nice streach of beach. It’s a little less crouded than right at the main Waikiki beach.
On the North shore is a real nice scenic view at Waimea Bay Beach Rock, but watch out for the undertow. It gets deep quick.
The Beach park by chinamans hat (small Island) is very shallow and goes out a long way before it starts to get deep.

City and county of Honolulu just click on tourism at top of page.
P.S. You might want to pick up a blue guide book for Oahu.

Well, the wave thing definitely limits your options a lot. You need beaches that are protected by reefs or jetties. The beaches at Magic Island & Ala Moana Beach Park would work, there is a part of Waikiki beach that is protected. Hanauma Bay would work. I think, but am not 100%, sure that the lagoons out at Kapolei might be well protected.

You may want to check out "child friendly" beaches which looks at the amount of NOT ONLY waves, but of rip tides, depth of water, etc.
