Oahu Category, X-treme Activities – Tom Barefoot

Visit http://www.tombarefoot.com for more information. X-Treme Activities in Oahu – In my youth there was no such thing as X-Treme Sports. In those days we played baseball, football or track and field. In my son Jake’s generation, X-Treme Sports seems to be the only activity they engage in at all. I must admit, it all seems quite exciting. There is some element of danger or “edge” that is a constant companion of those that indulge in these sports. I guess that adds in some way to the appreciation of it. When you are constantly and continuously challenged to stay within the skill level of your chosen activity it keeps you totally in the moment. During those “zen” moments you are totally charged and 100% alive. I guess I can see the appeal. Some years ago I went paragliding over the slopes of Haleakala and though the outcome of the experience was a totally safe one, I remember being completely petrified while hanging in thin air 1000 feet above the mountain. At the same I was maybe more alive, alert and aware than I have ever been. It was not an experience that you could ignore and that I think is the allure for these X-Treme events. Each island has its share of activities that could be considered X-Treme on one level or another. What might be considered X-Treme to one may not be considered such by another. In any event, we have attempted to emble here a number of the ones that might appeal to those of you who are looking to find that “edge” while visiting this island. If you find these calling out to you, go ahead and give them a try, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
